Aromatherapy & Weight Loss: The Scentsy Diet

I wish I were one of those people who loves "clean living"

That working out made me feel invigorated...

That I would smile when jogging...

That I craved delicious vegetables and tall glasses of water.

But unfortunately for me working out makes me feel tired, ice cream is my favorite food and in my opinion, there's nothing better than a BIG glass of wine...

Bottom line is that I need ALL the help I can get when trying to maintain (ok, even attempt) a healthy lifestyle.  My general lack of willpower when it comes to food and my love for fragrance motivated me to research which scents could help me on my mission to live a healthier lifestyle.

Here is a summary of what I've dug up along with Scentsy bars that can be used to support your weight loss goals:

Suppress your Appetite with Peppermint
In 2007, psychologist Bryan Raudenbush, a professor at Wheeling Jesuit University in West Virginia, studied the effects of peppermint on appetite.  He found that volunteers who sniffed peppermint scent every two hours were not as hungry as non-sniffers. Even better, they ate 2,800 fewer calories in a week!

If you want to replicate this study at home try Scentsy's Rosemary Mint bar. This invigorating, herbal fragrance was introduced with the new Spring/Summer 2014 catalog and has quickly become one of my favorites.

Kick the Sugar Cravings with Vanilla
A recent study at St. George Hospital in London, England found that overweight people who were given vanilla-scented skin patches had significantly reduced sweet food intake, leading to greater weight loss than those given dietary advice alone.

Vanilla fragrance essentially tricks your body into thinking your sweet tooth has been satisfied. Next time you are experiencing a craving for dessert make sure to pop a cube of Simply Vanilla into your warmer.

Curb Emotional Eating with Lavender
Lavender's sharp but calming fragrance can make your worries melt away. It has been proven to help those who suffer from anxiety and depression. Furthermore, lavender essential oil has been shown to improve sleep quality. Studies have shown a direct correlation between healthy sleep patterns and weight loss.

The next time you're having a particularly rough day, rather than grabbing a glass (or third glass) of wine, try melting a cube of Scentsy's French Lavender bar.  You can make it even better by including it as part of a relaxing evening ritual.

Energize your Workouts with Lemon
Lemon has the paradoxical effect calming emotions while stimulating concentration. In Japan some offices even have the scent wafting through them to help with their employees' concentration and reduce errors.  Lemons bright fragrance can also help to combat fatigue and lift your spirits.

If you have trouble pulling yourself off the couch Scentsy's Simply Lemon bar may be your answer. This energizing fragrance will help to motivate you to get moving and to maintain your focus while working out.

Final Tips
Aromatherapy is most effective when you regularly switch up the scent. This prevents olfactory fatigue which occurs when your nose becomes desensitized to certain fragrances from smelling them regularly.

Also, make sure to avoid stimulating your appetite by only exposing yourself to the scents for very brief periods (I like to call this the Cinnabon effect). Ensure you inhale the above noted fragrances for a minimum of 5 minutes.

All of the bars required for "The Scentsy Diet" can be purchase at my online store.  Good luck with your journey to good health and please wish me luck with mine!

Cheers,

Beth
