Colour Trend Nairobi Blue: Carrey Element Warmer

Sky blue is everywhere this spring.

It's Benjamin Moore's colour of the year...

2014 Colour of the Year - Breath of Fresh Air

It's been all over the runways...

And if you still hadn't noticed it, you would have once this magnificent dress happened...

It was Lupita's dress that started us calling it Nairobi Blue, rather than sky or baby blue
And who could blame designers for loving this colour? Nairobi Blue is soothing, elegant and dreamy. It can be cool and icey or bright and cheerful depending on what which colour you pair it with.

As usual, Scentsy is right on trend with the Carrey Element Warmer.

Carrey's pretty shade of blue works perfectly with it's charming design that features a frilly top edge and sweet floral pattern.  This little warmer is the ideal way to bring this season's premier colour into your home.

Afternoon Tea with Lace & Peony Petals

February is the time of year when the winter blues are at their peak.  To help distract myself and my friends form the cold, I usually try to have a get together of some sort during the month.  After binge watching the most recent season of Downton Abbey, I decided that this year my winter blues party would be a tea party!

To give the affair a classic tea party vibe I picked up a china tea cup for each of my guests at a second hand store.

I asked my mom to borrow a tablecloth and hit the jackpot when she found an old crochet cloth stored away in her basement. To finish it off, I bought a few fresh flowers for the table.

I think it turned out pretty nicely, if I do say so myself...  BUT I can't say I wasn't a little disappointed when Scentsy's Lace warmer was released only 2 weeks later...

Lace would have been the perfect accent with its vintagey lace pattern imprinted into the porcelain.  I would have used a classic floral Scentsy bar reminiscent of an English garden to compliment the mood.

Simply Rose or French Lavender would both be perfect choices for a tea party, but if I were having another party tomorrow I'd likely use new, Peony Petals.

Here is Scentsy's description of the fragrance -- "Peony and rose petals dance on a soft breeze."

Peony Petals smells like a mixed bouquet of highly fragrant spring flowers. While still a true floral scent, it's more modern than some of Scentsy's soliflore options (ie. Lush Gardenia, Simply Rose and French Lavender).  It's in the same vein as Chole, fans of that perfume will likely love Peony Petals as well.

Visit our online store to purchase Lace and Peony Petals, and bring a touch of Downton Abbey to your home as well!

She Sells Sea Shells: Ocean & By the Sea

If you're a Scentsy fan, you're probably already familiar with Ocean, which is part of their Favourites collection.

Ocean is described by Scentsy as consisting of "Cool and refreshing aquatic notes deepened with water lilies and ocean breezes."  Scentsy's description of Ocean is right on. This is a classic aquatic scent which is nicely blended with Sharp ozone and soft floral notes.

With the new Spring/Summer 2014 release, Scentsy has added, By the Sea, a second ocean inspired fragrance, to their line up. I'm really happy that Scentsy decided to introduce By the Sea this spring... It effectively doubles their aquatic fragrance optoins, since before this, Ocean was all there was.

By the Sea is described as "The scent of ocean air wafting through dewy seaside grass."

Based on the description alone, I would have guessed this is what By the Sea would smell like...

In reality, I think it smells more like this...

If you went to highschool in the late 90's you know exactly what Cool Water smells like... And if you're a woman chances are you owned a bottle.  By the Sea isn't as fruity as the perfume but its scent is definietly comparable.

When taking a whiff of By the Sea, I don't pick up any of the grass or breezy notes that Scentsy advertises. While very similar to Ocean, By the Sea isn't as clean smelling -- It replaces Ocean's fresh ozone notes with stronger floral ones and as a result has a far more perfumey and feminine smell.

If you're a fan of Ocean, I strongly recommend trying By the Sea. It's more of a sister scent than a complete reinvention so you'll likely enjoy it as well.  If both are new to you, then go with Ocean since it's more of a pure aquataic fragrance and would help to add variety to any Scentsy fragrance collection.

Bizarrely Accurate: Tomato Vine

Scentsy’s new Spring/Summer 2014 fragrance offerings are pretty awesome. While it’s still too soon for me to have a favorite, I can tell you that hands down, Tomato Vine is the most unexpected!

When I saw the name I assumed that Tomato Vine would be an earthy green scent, that was inspired by juicy sun ripened tomatoes.
I was wrong.

This fragrance is not inspired by tomato vines…

It smells exactly like a tomato vine. Scentsy wasn't kidding when they came up with this description.

I asked Peter to blind test this one to see if he had the same reaction. When I held up the test bar to his nose he knew right away that he recognized the scent, but even after repeated whiffs he couldn’t put his finger on exactly what it smelt like.

When I finally revealed to Peter what the fragrance was he was also amazed with Scentsy’s accuracy.

Peter just couldn’t guess the scent, since the smell of tomato vines is one of those life fragrances that we experience often enough but rarely stop to consciously register.

Alright, so this thing smells exactly like a tomato vine... But would I recommend it?

Ahhhh that’s hard to say.

I think that there are some people out there who would really enjoy it. People who love to tend to their vegetable gardens and want to transport themselves there during winter months… Or maybe vegetarians? (har har har)… Other than that perhaps a few people would like this as an occasional scent.

But really, I think this fragrance is pretty bizarre and I couldn’t see myself wanting to have its sharp green smell wafting through my house very often.

So this is what I say to it...

Our Scentsy Story

In late 2013, Peter moved his dog grooming business, The Friendly Groomer, to our small home in Wortley Village.  Now, if you think your house stinks just imagine having a bunch of wet dogs in it every day and a few pets of your own to top it off.  Peter’s solution was to constantly have a scented candle burning.  While it improved the smell, I would often come home to find candles Peter had forgotten about burning around the house. Terrified that one of our two dogs or cat would knock a candle over and start a fire I started looking for a safe way to make our house smell great.

…. And then I discovered Scentsy.

Scentsy’s wickless candles fulfilled all my requirements; it was more affordable than the giant candles we were constantly burning, it could be forgotten about without creating a fire hazard and came in an overwhelming selection of fragrances.

To make sure this wasn’t too good to be true I asked my Facebook friends what they thought. It turned out that Peter and I were way behind -- so many of our friends already knew about this product and gave us awesome feedback right away.

Then a light bulb when on in my head – If Peter and I needed the Scentsy wickless candle because of our pets, then likely our friends with pets and small children did too.  In addition to making my Scentsy purchase decided I would sign Peter and I up to be consultants as well.

… The Safe Candle Shoppe was born!

Peter and I now work together to bring Scentsy to our friends and customers.  You can check out the samples anytime by visiting Peter at The FriendlyGroomer, located in our home in London, Ontario.
