Afternoon Tea with Lace & Peony Petals

February is the time of year when the winter blues are at their peak.  To help distract myself and my friends form the cold, I usually try to have a get together of some sort during the month.  After binge watching the most recent season of Downton Abbey, I decided that this year my winter blues party would be a tea party!

To give the affair a classic tea party vibe I picked up a china tea cup for each of my guests at a second hand store.

I asked my mom to borrow a tablecloth and hit the jackpot when she found an old crochet cloth stored away in her basement. To finish it off, I bought a few fresh flowers for the table.

I think it turned out pretty nicely, if I do say so myself...  BUT I can't say I wasn't a little disappointed when Scentsy's Lace warmer was released only 2 weeks later...

Lace would have been the perfect accent with its vintagey lace pattern imprinted into the porcelain.  I would have used a classic floral Scentsy bar reminiscent of an English garden to compliment the mood.

Simply Rose or French Lavender would both be perfect choices for a tea party, but if I were having another party tomorrow I'd likely use new, Peony Petals.

Here is Scentsy's description of the fragrance -- "Peony and rose petals dance on a soft breeze."

Peony Petals smells like a mixed bouquet of highly fragrant spring flowers. While still a true floral scent, it's more modern than some of Scentsy's soliflore options (ie. Lush Gardenia, Simply Rose and French Lavender).  It's in the same vein as Chole, fans of that perfume will likely love Peony Petals as well.

Visit our online store to purchase Lace and Peony Petals, and bring a touch of Downton Abbey to your home as well!

Unwind with Zen Rock and Just Breathe

Peter and I were married at the Aria in Las Vegas this past January. The day after the wedding we had a one day honeymoon, part of which was spent in the lap of luxury in their spa.

Our favourite part of the experience was their eucalyptus steam room. The eucalyptus steam was the perfect antidote for our previous night of overindulgence. We both regretted not trying it out earlier on in our trip. Luckily for Peter and I, we discovered Scentsy's Just Breathe bar...

Here is Scentsy's description of Just Breathe...
"Breathe deeply as soothing eucalyptus, zesty lemon, and a medley of mints comfort and rejuvenate."

Peter and I are now a obsessed with this fragrance -- It's the perfect scent to unwind with at the end of the day. The mint alleviates headaches, the lemon is uplifting and the eucalyptus helps you to take that deep breathe and exhale out all your stress.

In fact, we love it so much that we just ordered the Zen Rock element warmer so we can turn our bedroom into our very own spa.

Avoiding Awkward Moments: Crinkle & Jet Set Go!

Picture this...

Your long time friend comes over for a coffee and casually mentions that her birthday was a couple days ago...

You typcially like to buy one another small momentos but, of course, you have completly forgotten about her birthday this year.

Realizing your error you decide to...

a. Face it head-on and appologize to your friend...  She may be a little hurt, but she'll forgive you.

b.  Ask if she has received your card in the mail (that you never actually sent).  Claim it must have gotten lost when she says no.

c. Avoid the awkward moment entirely and give your friend a small gift you had ready for times like these.

I don't know about you, but I'd pick c!

Of course, the perfect gift to keep on hand can be tough since you won't know who you're giving it to at the time of purchase.

Enter Scentsy. (Ok, you knew that one was coming!)

My perfect gift to keep on hand is Crinkle...

and a bar of Jet Set Go!...

This is the ULTIMATE last minute gift combo. Here's why...

At $30 it's inexpesive enough to give as a small token of your appreciation (ie. a hostess gift) but expensive enough to sub in as a last minute birthday or special occasion gift.

Crinkle's interesting white design is simple enough for people with modern tastes but detailed enough for those who like more traditional decor.  Since it's a plug-in, it's great for bathrooms - Everyone has a bathroom -- And even people who don't typically use home fragrances will like the idea of their bathroom smelling great.

Jet Set Go! is part of Scentsy's Favorties collection, which means that a lot of people must like it.  Its light tropical/vanilla scent is perfect for people who enjoy delicious food fragrances but is mild enough for people who prefer that their home to smell "good" rather than like anything in particular.

She Sells Sea Shells: Ocean & By the Sea

If you're a Scentsy fan, you're probably already familiar with Ocean, which is part of their Favourites collection.

Ocean is described by Scentsy as consisting of "Cool and refreshing aquatic notes deepened with water lilies and ocean breezes."  Scentsy's description of Ocean is right on. This is a classic aquatic scent which is nicely blended with Sharp ozone and soft floral notes.

With the new Spring/Summer 2014 release, Scentsy has added, By the Sea, a second ocean inspired fragrance, to their line up. I'm really happy that Scentsy decided to introduce By the Sea this spring... It effectively doubles their aquatic fragrance optoins, since before this, Ocean was all there was.

By the Sea is described as "The scent of ocean air wafting through dewy seaside grass."

Based on the description alone, I would have guessed this is what By the Sea would smell like...

In reality, I think it smells more like this...

If you went to highschool in the late 90's you know exactly what Cool Water smells like... And if you're a woman chances are you owned a bottle.  By the Sea isn't as fruity as the perfume but its scent is definietly comparable.

When taking a whiff of By the Sea, I don't pick up any of the grass or breezy notes that Scentsy advertises. While very similar to Ocean, By the Sea isn't as clean smelling -- It replaces Ocean's fresh ozone notes with stronger floral ones and as a result has a far more perfumey and feminine smell.

If you're a fan of Ocean, I strongly recommend trying By the Sea. It's more of a sister scent than a complete reinvention so you'll likely enjoy it as well.  If both are new to you, then go with Ocean since it's more of a pure aquataic fragrance and would help to add variety to any Scentsy fragrance collection.

Bizarrely Accurate: Tomato Vine

Scentsy’s new Spring/Summer 2014 fragrance offerings are pretty awesome. While it’s still too soon for me to have a favorite, I can tell you that hands down, Tomato Vine is the most unexpected!

When I saw the name I assumed that Tomato Vine would be an earthy green scent, that was inspired by juicy sun ripened tomatoes.
I was wrong.

This fragrance is not inspired by tomato vines…

It smells exactly like a tomato vine. Scentsy wasn't kidding when they came up with this description.

I asked Peter to blind test this one to see if he had the same reaction. When I held up the test bar to his nose he knew right away that he recognized the scent, but even after repeated whiffs he couldn’t put his finger on exactly what it smelt like.

When I finally revealed to Peter what the fragrance was he was also amazed with Scentsy’s accuracy.

Peter just couldn’t guess the scent, since the smell of tomato vines is one of those life fragrances that we experience often enough but rarely stop to consciously register.

Alright, so this thing smells exactly like a tomato vine... But would I recommend it?

Ahhhh that’s hard to say.

I think that there are some people out there who would really enjoy it. People who love to tend to their vegetable gardens and want to transport themselves there during winter months… Or maybe vegetarians? (har har har)… Other than that perhaps a few people would like this as an occasional scent.

But really, I think this fragrance is pretty bizarre and I couldn’t see myself wanting to have its sharp green smell wafting through my house very often.

So this is what I say to it...

Trend: Bold, Geometric, Black & White

My favorite spring home decor trend for 2014 is the use of bold, geometric, black and white accessories...

I love how modern, fun and clean they can make a room...

Since redecorating my entire living room is out of the question, I decided to buy Scentsy's Chevron Black warmer instead...

Scentsy got it so right with this one!

I'm a little obsessed with this warmer to be honest... Actually... A lot obsessed, if I'm really honest. Check out my polyvore creation that took me way too much time to put together.

What is your favorite home decor trend this spring?

Glamorous Gardenias: Lush Gardenia and Tiare Maohi

I love gardenias and their ultra feminine, vintagey appeal...

Gardenias symbolize love, harmony and grace
Funnily enough, even though gardenias have a strong fragrance in real life, gardenia scented products and perfumes are not actually made from gardenias.  It is almost impossible to extract their natural essential oils.  Instead, perfumers blend a variety of other oils to mimic their scent.  Unfortunately, while some gardenia fragrances are beautiful many of them are way too loud and cloying.

In my opinion, Chanel’s Gardenia perfume is an example of a very well done, classic, gardenia fragrance…

Knowing how many perfumers have tried and miserably failed to produce a successful gardenia fragrance, I was delighted when I sampled Scentsy’s two perfectly executed gardenia based offerings; Lush Gardenia and Tiare Maohi.

Here is Scentsy's description of Lush Gardenia -  "The creamy, full scent of classic gardenia, with a whisper of tuberose."

Scentsy's fragrance description for this one is spot on.  Of their two gardenia scents, this one really reminds me of Chanel's version.  You can smell the intoxicating gardenia blossom in addition to green undertones, making it feel freshly plucked from your garden.

In contrast to this, Tiare Maohi explores the more sensual side of gardenias with its balmy, tropical undercurrents -- "Pure white, wild gardenia -- a sumptuously luxurious floral with a sheen of coconut."

Tiare Maohi is a little more user friendly than Lush Gardenia.  The coconut undertones help to temper the loud white floral scent. Overall, this is a bombshell of a scent...

Billie Holiday
While I love both of these Scentsy fragrances I would not recommend buying them untested unless you know for sure that gardenias are for you.  The smell of gardenias are big, perfumey and loud, and because of this, they are not for everyone.
